# BURST

BURST is a parameterized, decentralized and democratic monetary protocol.
Its participants choose how quickly personal income grows and how long
transferable currency lasts.

Universal income is one configuration. The community can change the income rate,
including setting it to zero, and choose a limited or effectively unlimited
currency lifetime. The defaults are about <!-- default:live.brn_rate:hourly_approx -->1<!-- /default --> BRN per eligible hour and a <!-- default:live.trst_expiry_secs:years -->70<!-- /default -->-year
TRST lifetime. These choices use the same underlying payment system.

Start with the [introduction](introduction/QUICK_TOUR.md). It follows a payment,
explains why the rules exist, and discusses what they cannot guarantee. Then read
[balances and units](introduction/ECONOMICS.md) for the accounting,
[verification](protocol/VERIFICATION.md) for how people join, and
[governance](protocol/GOVERNANCE.md) for how the rules can change.

The [whitepaper](introduction/WHITEPAPER.md) presents the broader monetary design.
The [limits and assumptions page](introduction/LIMITATIONS.md) explains the risks and
which features are available in current builds.

## Build with BURST

- [Run a local node](development/DEVELOPING.md).
- [Integrate a wallet](wallet/WALLETS.md) and [make RPC requests](development/RPC.md).
- [Find the code](development/ARCHITECTURE.md).

For the features available in current builds, see
[implementation status](introduction/WHITEPAPER.md#implementation-status).
